The ninth best-selling car in Australia, the Toyota Corolla is the perfect rental car: easy to use, cheap to run, and built for reliability.
It handles well on both highways and city streets and has a host of great safety features. With plenty of leg and head room and a boot that can fit a surprising amount of luggage, this compact vehicle is ideal for driving anywhere in South East Queensland.
The i20 is the smaller sibling of the more popular i30, but it still packs plenty of punch.
With decent torque and power, it’s suitable for driving in steeper regions like the Gold Coast hinterland and the Glasshouse Mountains.
It also handles well – perfect for quick lane changes and city parking.
All i20 models in our fleet have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Brisbane is a city of narrow streets and tight parking spaces.
That’s why it’s perfect for entry-level hatchbacks like the Toyota Yaris and Hyundai i20, I30 and Getz.
Forget about burning fuel while waiting in traffic or parallel-parking a rental SUV while cars back up behind you.
If you’re navigating Brisbane, the best way to do it is in a small rental car.
If a small car’s a little too small, get the legroom you need with a larger hatchback or sedan.
Cars like the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Elantra start from just $42 per day – and combine strong fuel efficiency with good handling.
Brisbane is always busy, but peak times (6–9 a.m. and 4–7 p.m.) are the worst. If you can, don’t drive during those times.
No choice? We recommend avoiding these roads as much as possible:
Inner-city Brisbane has some of the most expensive parking in Australia. If you can, park in the outer suburbs and catch public transport in.
If you do have to drive into suburbs like the CBD or Fortitude Valley, map out your route first with Google Maps and find a cheap(er) car park. Don’t drive around hoping to find an on-street park. Take it from Brisbane locals – you probably won’t find one.
Brisbane has hundreds of service stations, which makes refuelling easy. To get the best price on fuel for your Cheapie car, use a fuel price app like PetrolSpy to find low-cost petrol near you.
When you’re returning your car to our Upper Coomera depot, the closest service stations are the BP on the Pacific Highway (if you’re coming from the north) and the Shell on Chatswood Road (if you’re coming from the south).
Some roads in Brisbane have tolls, including:
To avoid toll roads, check your route in the Google Maps app before you leave. If you see a dollar figure at the bottom of the screen, you’re going through tolls. Click that number to expand the route’s details. If you don’t want to pay tolls, you can change your toll settings to avoid toll roads.
If you think you might drive through toll roads with your Cheapie car, add it to your Linkt account. (New to Queensland? Here’s how you can set up an account.) You can also manually pay recent tolls. Any tolls that are outstanding when you return your Cheapie car will be assigned to your driver, which will incur a statutory declaration fee as per your rental agreement.
Don’t want a fine in Brisbane? Learn and follow Queensland’s road rules. Here are some of the most important:
Any fine notices your vehicle incurs will be assigned to the driver and a statutory declaration fee will be charged as per your rental agreement.

You must be aged 21–80 and hold an open driver’s license to hire a Cheapie car. Our insurance policy means we can’t rent to anyone aged under 21 or over 80.
Each booking comes with 86 free kilometres per day or 600 per week. Additional kilometres will be tallied when you return your car and charged at 20 cents per kilometre.
For context, driving from a central Brisbane suburb like Paddington to a south Brisbane suburb like Sunnybank and back again would use around 45 kilometres. In other words: unless you’re doing a lot of driving, you shouldn’t exceed 600 kilometres per week.
