The ninth best-selling car in Australia, the Toyota Corolla is the perfect rental car: easy to use, cheap to run, and built for reliability.
It handles well on both highways and city streets and has a host of great safety features. With plenty of leg and head room and a boot that can fit a surprising amount of luggage, this compact vehicle is ideal for driving anywhere in South East Queensland.
The i20 is the smaller sibling of the more popular i30, but it still packs plenty of punch.
With decent torque and power, it’s suitable for driving in steeper regions like the Gold Coast hinterland and the Glasshouse Mountains.
It also handles well – perfect for quick lane changes and city parking.
All i20 models in our fleet have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Smaller than a Corolla but still built with Toyota durability, the Yaris is an excellent daily driver.
Passenger space might be limited, but, with fold-down back seats, fitting two adults and plenty of luggage in is simple.
Cruise around Brisbane, hit the GC’s beaches, or take day trips to the Northern Rivers – Toyota Yaris will get you there.
Living in South East Queensland for less than a year? Buying a car doesn’t make sense.
You have to find the right vehicle, pay for a pre-purchase inspection, get it serviced regularly, and then sell it just as you’re ready to leave. That’s a lot of work – especially when you could subscribe to a Cheapie car instead.
One monthly subscription, billed weekly, cancellable at any time.
With rates from just $185 per week, it’s the smartest way to get on the road and stay there.
Big holiday, major repair, or temporary relocation – there are plenty of reasons to hire a car for more than a week.
And, with Cheapie, it’s simple.
Just book the hatchback or sedan you want, choose a rental period from 7 days to 24 months, and pick up your rental from our Upper Coomera depot (Gold Coast depot coming soon).
Choose the dates and car size, then just call or hit the “Get A Quote” button for a personalised quote.

Meeting seasonal demand? Trialling a new staff member? Or expanding your operations without impacting cash flow? Whatever you need a car for, we can help.
Because getting access to an extra set of wheels shouldn’t mean paying a broker or getting credit-checked by lenders.
Rent hatchbacks and sedans at affordable long-term rates – fully insured, safety-certified, and driveable wherever you’re based across South East Queensland.
‘Long-term hire’ and ‘operating lease’ are similar terms that mean different things. Long-term car hire is like renting a house. You pay a set fee in exchange for using the car for an agreed period, and servicing/repairs are covered by the lessor (us).
But an operating lease is a type of loan. You choose any new vehicle, which the lessor then buys and leases to you for an agreed period.
Lease payments are calculated by subtracting the car’s value at the end of the lease term from its initial cost, which is then divided into regular payments over the life of the lease. That means an operating lease is a great option if you need a car for a few years – but not if you need one for a few months.
Cars lose value quickly, which means you could end up paying a lot more than you would under a long-term hire arrangement.
Here’s how a long-term rental stacks up to leasing and purchasing a car.
| Long-Term Hire | Operating Lease | Finance Lease | Purchase | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Asset Owned By | Vendor (Hirer) | Lessor | Lessor | Buyer |
| Upfront Cost | Security deposit from $350 | None | None | 100% of the asset’s value |
| Typical Structure | The tenant makes weekly payments over the life of the hire agreement. | The lessee makes periodic payments over the life of the hire agreement. | The asset’s cost is partially amortised over the loan term, with an optional residual payment due upon loan maturity. | The buyer pays for the asset in full before they take possession of it. |
| Typical Term | 7 days – 24 months | Varies | 1–5 years | N/A |
| Claimable Costs (for Businesses) | Payments made |
|
|
|
| Maintenance Costs | Paid for by the vendor | Paid for by the lessor | Paid for by the lessee | Paid for by the buyer |
| At the End of Term | The tenant returns the asset to the vendor or renews the agreement. | The lessee returns the asset to the lessor or renews the lease. | The lessee can purchase the asset via a residual payment or return it to the lessor. | N/A |

Many car rental companies only offer near-new vehicles that have high acquisition/financing costs – costs that they pass onto you, the driver.
We’re the opposite. When you’re looking for a cheap rental car, you don’t need frills like leather seats, Apple Play, and cruise control. You’re after a reliable vehicle to get you from A to B as cost-effectively as possible – and that’s exactly what we deliver.
Our fleet is made up of base-model hatchbacks and sedans from manufacturers like Toyota, Hyundai and Suzuki. Instead of only using vehicles made in the last 2 years (like some of our competitors), we focus on choosing models built for reliability (which also helps keep our insurance costs down).
Each vehicle is serviced in accordance with manufacturer standards by qualified mechanics and safety-certified by an independent examiner at least once every 12 months.
You must be aged 21–80 and hold an open driver’s license to hire a Cheapie car. Our insurance policy means we can’t rent to anyone aged under 21 or over 80.
Each booking comes with 80 free kilometres per day (600 kilometres per week). Additional kilometres will be tallied when you return your car and charged at 20 cents per kilometre.
To confirm, cancel or change your booking, give us a call or send us an email. You can change a booking free of charge up to 2 hours before your pick-up time.
We don’t refund booking fees for cancellations or changes to bookings within 2 hours of pickup.
We follow the Australian Finance Industry Association’s Car Rental Code of Practice. Always check your rental agreement for fair wear and tear inclusions and exclusions as they apply to your vehicle.

The easiest way to pay for any tolls you might incur is to add your Cheapie hire car to your Linkt account. (Here’s a guide to adding and removing vehicles.)
If you have outstanding tolls that aren’t paid by the due date or the date of vehicle return (whichever comes first), we’ll nominate you as the responsible driver, which will incur a statutory declaration charge as per your rental contract.
No, you can’t. Your Cheapie rental car can’t be driven more than 150 kilometres from its rental depot.
