Want to fit in the whole family on a budget?
The Kia Rio is the ride you need.
With enough power to overtake slow drivers and climb hills, it’s a great option for daily driving around Brisbane.
Keep in mind that, despite its capacity, it’s still technically a compact car – if you like legroom and grunt, something like a Camry or Corolla sedan might be a better option.
The Camry’s smaller cousin, the Corolla is equally reliable – although it does pack a little less power.
With good handling and comfort, as well as plenty of interior space, it’s capable of both long and short drives.
All Toyota Corollas in our fleet have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

According to Kia, ‘a family car is a family-friendly vehicle that can haul passengers of all sizes and meet the everyday needs of a regular family.’
And, when you’re looking for a rental, that’s exactly what you should asking:
‘Can this car accommodate all my passengers and luggage – and still be comfortable?’
Our range of family cars includes Australian mainstays like the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Elantra, which perform equally well cruising the M1 as they do navigating suburb streets and steep hills.
All our family cars have 5 seats, which means they can technically fit 5 people. Of course, 5 full-sized adults can get a little squashy – 4 people plus luggage is more comfortable.
To work out exactly how much weight your car can carry, check the gross vehicle mass (GVM) for your rental car’s make and model, then minus the car’s kerb weight from the GVM to work out the maximum weight you can have on board (also known as your car’s payload).
For example, a 2012 Toyota Camry Altise has a GVM of 2,100 kilograms. Subtract its kerb weight of 1,465, and you’re left with 635 kilograms – more than enough for 5 people and some luggage.
With that said, your car’s GVM is the maximum weight it can handle. Even if you have, say, 150 kilograms of capacity left, your vehicle would probably struggle up steep hills and have roll more when cornering. Keep that in mind when you’re loading up your Cheapie rental car.
Many car rental companies only offer near-new vehicles that have high acquisition/financing costs – costs that they pass onto you, the driver.
We’re the opposite. When you’re looking for a cheap rental car, you don’t need frills like leather seats, Apple Play, and cruise control. You’re after a reliable vehicle to get you from A to B as cost-effectively as possible – and that’s exactly what we deliver.
Our fleet is made up of base-model hatchbacks and sedans from manufacturers like Toyota, Hyundai and Suzuki. Instead of only using vehicles made in the last 2 years (like some of our competitors), we focus on choosing models built for reliability (which also helps keep our insurance costs down).
Each vehicle is serviced in accordance with manufacturer standards by qualified mechanics and safety-certified by an independent examiner at least once every 12 months.
You must be aged 21–80 and hold an open driver’s license to hire a Cheapie car. Our insurance policy means we can’t rent to anyone aged under 21 or over 80.
Each booking comes with 80 free kilometres per day (600 kilometres per week). Additional kilometres will be tallied when you return your car and charged at 20 cents per kilometre.
We follow the Australian Finance Industry Association’s Car Rental Code of Practice. Always check your rental agreement for fair wear and tear inclusions and exclusions as they apply to your vehicle.
